The Satanic Temple Scores a Victory in Reproductive Rights Lawsuit

The Satanic Temple Religious Reproductive Rights

In May of 2015, The Satanic Temple filed two lawsuits against the state of Missouri on behalf of Mary Doe, a pregnant woman seeking an abortion. On religious grounds, we object to the 72-hour waiting period she was forced to endure as well as the mandatory reading material she was given which claims that life begins at conception.

On October 3, 2017, the Missouri Court of Appeals transferred our case to the Missouri State Supreme Court. In their decision, the judges wrote: “We believe this case raises real and substantial constitutional claims.”

This acknowledgment is a huge victory for The Satanic Temple and is very encouraging for all defenders of reproductive rights. We have been funding this lawsuit with our own resources and from contributions of supporters. We greatly need additional contributions to help us continue this legal battle in the State Supreme Court.
